Case History

A 23 year-old construction worker was in a motor vehicle accident. He was driving a car that was struck on the driver’s side with a pickup truck. A thorough evaluation revealed injury to his left lower extremity only. There were two open wounds (Figure 1). One communicated to the knee joint, the other with the most proximal femur fracture. Radiographs of the left leg demonstrated a segmental femur fracture. There was also a non-displaced intracondylar fracture (Figure 2 and Figure 3).
