Post-Operative Care

Post-Operative Care

The patient was immobilized for 5 days to allow the soft tissues to quiet down. Active and active assisted range of motion were then started. He was ambulating, crutch walking, toe touch weight bearing on POD #2.

Radiographs obtained at 4 weeks (Figure 5 and Figure 6) demonstrate aggressive healing of the fracture. He was advanced to 50% weight bearing and low weight progressive resistance exercises.

Radiographs obtained at 12 weeks (Figure 7 and Figure 8) demonstrate a healed fracture. By now the patient was weight bearing as tolerated and exercising as tolerated.

Follow at 6 months is shown in Figure 9 and Figure 10. The fracture has healed and remodeling continues. His range of motion is from 0 to 1250. He is a step slower but has returned to work as night watchman.
