Treatment Options

Surgery was recommended to the patient because of the gross displacement of the fracture and the likelihood for a poor result with non-operative treatment. Surgical treatment options include:

  • Open reduction and internal fixation with a plate
  • Antegrade nailing with a trochanteric nail
  • Antegrade nailing with a cephalomedullary nail

    Options for plate fixation include:

  • Fixed-angle devices such as the 95-degree blade plate or dynamic condylar screw (DCS)
  • Higher angle sliding device such as the dynamic hip screw (DHS)
