Post-operative Treatment

The patients limb was immobilized for one week. The wounds look good and there was almost no swelling. The patients neurologic status remained normal. Physical therapy was started with active range of motion and active assisted range of motion exercises. Oral antibiotics were continued for six weeks.

Radiographs at eight weeks demonstrated complete union of the two bone-allograft interfaces (Figure 5 & Figure 6).  A close up comparison of the pre- and post-graft AP & Lat radiographs really demonstrates the fragment-graft interface union (Figure 7 & Figure 8). Aggressive progressive resistance exercises were started.

The patient has no complaints and has no bone graft donor site morbidity because no autograft was used. He lacks five degrees of both supination and pronation, has full elbow and wrist flexion and extension, and has no neurologic deficits. He has resumed full unrestricted activities without complaint.
