Pregnancy and Acupuncture

During a pregnancy, woman can receive acupuncture treatments to help ease them through the pregnancy and ensure a healthy birth and a healthy baby. Pregnancy is a time when many people are looking for natural remedies and non-invasive, drug-free treatments as to not cause any harm or risk to her fetus.

The most common conditions treated during pregnancy are:

Breech Babies & Abnormal Position of the Fetus

Many women seek acupuncture and moxibustion for treatment and malpositioned fetus. The success rate of turning a breech baby with moxibustion through studies done in China are 80-90%. The most optimal time to receive this type of treatment is week 34. Usually one treatment is needed for this. The acupuncture will administer the needles and the moxibustion and instruct the woman (or her spouse or family member) how to perform the moxibustion at home. Often the baby turns during the treatment or soon after, though repeated courses of moxibustion may be needed for up to 7 days.

Acupuncture & Labour

If a woman is past her due date, acupuncture may be used to induce labour. This is usually done in the office (or at the patient's home for an additional fee) and consists of using electro-acupuncture to stimulate the uterus and induce labour.

Post natal Care

There are many changes that occur after delivery that women seek acupuncture treatment for. The main reason is lack of lactation or poor lactation. Other conditions that are commonly treated after delivery are:
